Hiking the M

THe Legendary "M" landmark

One of the most iconic things to do in Bozeman is Hiking the “M”.  The “M” landmark is one of the most visited places by locals and tourists.  Especially with school in full swing at Montana State University, hiking the “M” is one of the activities included in Catapalooza.  It is a family fun activity you can do to gain valuable family time, or get to know others you have met at MSU!  It is definitely one of the main pastimes here in Bozeman.  There are two possible routes to take: one steep and direct and the other gradual and winding.  In total, it is a 1.6 mile loop that gives you beautiful views of the Gallatin Valley and the Story Hills.  This is a nature scene you will want a picture of.

The legendary landmark “M” was created by engineering students at Montana State University in 1915.  It is fully visible to the college and the town to show the bobcat pride.  Each year the freshman class climbs up the mountain to repaint the rocks and make sure the life of the “M” lives on.  If you are planning on a trip to Bozeman, this should absolutely be on the agenda.  Yellowstone Rent a Car can be there to make your family trip go down in history.  We can help you find the ride to get you to your destination.  As a bonus, dogs are allowed, both on and off leash!
